The mascot of Sherrod Elementary School is the glacier bear (a somewhat rare bluish-grey bruin).

The Mat-Su Borough wanted the Sherrod sign fashioned after the Ron Larson school sign, and after some research on glacier bears, the project began.

The 14’x4’ sign background is 2” thick cedar with routed letters painted white. The upright posts are southeast Alaskan cedar.

The Sherrod Glacier Bear was carved from closed cell high density urethane (H.D.U.) and finished in natural colors.
